Benson Honda Civic Si IZOD pace carRace fans excited about Civic’s new role

For a vehicle like the Honda Civic, adding more to its repertoire is all in a day’s work. Recently, the Honda Civic Si was made the new IZOD IndyCar safety car. At Benson Honda, the leading Honda dealer in San Antonio, Texas, we know the Honda Civic is one of the safest vehicles out there—now it’s on the race track, too.

Honda first made a splash with racing fans when they ran the Civic Racing Style Sweepstakes. Now the reliable and durable vehicle will be once again seen by racing fans.

Honda Performance Development did what they do best and the California company made modifications for the Civic so it’s ready for the race track. These modifications added four-piston calipers, rotors and pads and stainless brake lines. The Civic was given a genuine Honda aerodynamic kit and a wheel upgrade.

Under the sponsor stamped hood, there’s a 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder and a total over 201 horsepower.

"The high-performance new Honda Civic Si is the perfect match for the IndyCar Safety Car fleet," said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president, auto sales. "With its larger and more powerful 2.4-liter engine and enhancements provided by HPD, it is ready to lead the IZOD IndyCar Series field at the Honda Indy Toronto and beyond."

This pace car is set to be driven by Johnny Rutherford, a three-time Indy 500 champion. Even if a street version of this car isn’t in your future (Honda hasn’t’ yet said if there will be one), Benson Honda, the leading Honda dealer in San Antonio, Texas has a great selection of new and used Hondas. We have great, professional staff who can help you with any questions. Stop out today to see why Benson Honda is number one!
